AAPI Heritage Month – Stories of Asian American History and Activism in the DMV
May 11, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Know History, Know Self. No History, No Self. Our local histories can teach us a great deal about our communities today. Join us to hear stories of Asian American history and activism in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area—from the rise and fall of DC Chinatown, student activism that demanded Asian American studies at the University of Maryland, and intersections with other social movements. Local Asian American community leaders and advocates will share their stories of fighting to be heard and seen, and how their work continues today. Given the broad array of experiences in the Asian American community, we will also invite audience members to share their own personal stories and histories. Come together with us as we learn how we can all do our part in serving and uplifting Asian American communities in the DMV now.
