Social Impact Awards

Social Impact Awards

The Social Impact Awards are an annual recognition program, which honors outstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Formerly, PRNEWS hosted the CSR awards, which reigned for 20 years and this marquee award for Social Good professionals, and in 2020 hosted the inaugural Diversity Awards, which honored historically underrepresented professionals in the wake of rising social protests. Now in 2021, the Social Impact Awards take on the essence of both of these audience favorite programs and look to highlight outstanding CSR & DEI work being done by agencies, corporations, nonprofits, and more both internationally and in the U.S.

Through categories like Sustainability Leader of the Year, CSR Professional of the Year, and Women’s Empowerment Champion, these awards look to celebrate the individuals leading the way in social responsibility and inclusion. The Pioneer Awards showcase the industry’s top communications professionals from historically underrepresented communities and the work they do to advance their communities. Categories like Employee Development Initiative and Mentoring Program, honor the organization’s internal missions and the strides they make to encourage their employees and/or the future members of the organization. Finally, there are over 30 campaign and communications categories, which will celebrate everything from health communications to pro bono work and campaigns by minority-owned businesses to campaigns combatting racial injustice.

Needless to say, there is a campaign for everyone. You’ve done the work to be a more socially responsible and inclusive organization, now is the time to show it off. Enter this impactful work into the 2022 Social Impact Awards.

The entry deadline is October 8. Visit the Call for Entries page for more info.

Mid-Autumn and Marvel

Mid-Autumn and Marvel

A big reason to celebrate our Asian American community this week – congrats to the cast and crew of Marvel’s Shang-Chi for shattering the Labor Day weekend ticket sales record with $90 million in sales. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, we encourage you to do so!

Later this month, we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, which is celebrated by many East and Southeast Asian people. During this celebration, families and friends give thanks for the harvest and offer each other wishes for happiness and long life and remembering loved ones who live far away.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

Statement on Safety During Inauguration Day

The inauguration of our Presidents has dated back to President George Washington’s first term in office. It is a day to set aside political differences to celebrate our nation’s democratic process.

This year, however, there is a cause for concern when it comes to the safety and security of all participants in the 59th Presidential Inauguration. The FBI has warned of plans for armed protests nationwide in the days leading up to the inauguration. The warning follows the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

The National Association of Asian American Professionals, Washington D.C. (NAAAP DC) is a non-partisan organization. We echo the recommendations by the Biden Inaugural Committee, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam to watch the inauguration at home as opposed to attending in person. In addition, we also recommend the following actions:

If you live in or near D.C. or your state capital, work from home during the week of January 18-22 if possible

If you choose to attend the inauguration in D.C. or any relevant events in your area:

Be aware of the risks of potential clashes from protestors

Do not engage with protestors

If you do witness violence, report it immediately to the police

Wear a mask and social distance

NAAAP DC congratulates the incoming President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Please join us in honoring our nation’s long history of celebrating the peaceful transition of power.
