NAAAP DC & the ROCKS DC Fall Mixer

Building Community Partnerships to Build Leaders: As a person of color, breaking the concrete ceiling alone in the workplace is a lofty goal. But what if we approached this pervasive issue via strategic partnerships? More than ever, coalition building between communities of color is needed to shed light on shared experiences, obstacles, and ways forward to advance the professional advancement of people of color in the workplace.
On Friday, October 20, join us for an evening of an interactive discussion about breaking the concrete ceiling in the workplace via transformational leadership and challenging systems of race, privilege, and power that pose unique obstacles for people of color’s career advancement. The budding partnership between the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) DC and the ROCKS DC on this topic will kick off via a fireside chat between NAAAP DC’s President, Jenny Nguyen, and the ROCKS DC’s President, Kimberlee Short. Lieutenant General (ret.) Arthur Gregg, a historic figure in US history and the first African American 3-star US Army General Officer, will be a special guest at the event.
Background on NAAAP DC & the ROCKS DC: The National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) is a non-profit organization that cultivates and empowers Asian and Pacific Islander leaders through professional development, community service, and networking. NAAAP was founded in 1982 in response to the brutal murder of Vincent Chin, which raised awareness of the importance of activism. The ROCKS, Inc., also a non-profit, was founded in 1974 by African American Army officers assigned to the DC area to network, mentor and socialize. It is now the premiere mentoring and networking organization to strengthen the US Armed Forces Officer Corps, with 23 chapters and Interest Groups located internationally.
