Read and Wine: Tomorrow Will Be Different June Edition

June 24, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This month’s book choice is: Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality by Sarah McBride.

Gallup’s latest update on lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender identification finds 5.6% of U.S. adults identifying as LGBT. That is nearly 16 million people in the US. But how much do you know about this community? Do you understand their challenges and how to support and help them in the correct way?

To celebrate Pride Month, we are going to read Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality. Foreworded by President Joe Biden and Written by Sarah McBride, who became the first transgender person to ever speak in front of a national political convention at the age of 26, this book is informative, heartbreaking, and profoundly empowering and full of McBride’s story of love and loss and a powerful entry point into the LGBTQ community’s battle for equal rights and what it means to be openly transgender. From issues like bathroom access to health care to gender in America, McBride weaves the important political and cultural milestones into a personal journey that will open hearts and change minds.

We are also going to have a special guest, Kris Garringer, to join us. Kris is the Director of Pride at NAAAP DC and the Community Outreach Lead on NAAAP’s Pride National Team. Kris will share his insights on this topic based on his great experience leading and advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights and equality.
